The anticipation around The Game Awards was significant, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.
That said, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This distinction hints that the team could be building a more action-oriented experience rather than another tactical title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is widely praised and many say it sparked the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, branching plots, and deep class systems—qualities that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its world is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths that are viable by choosing a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also famously permissive, allowing players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Most missions can be completed in diverse methods, frequently in surprising fashion.
- You might progress the story because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can get ready for another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
